$2.2 million Live Oak Well Project (Arcadia, CA)
Cost-Saving Design and Construction
“James’s knowledge of cost-saving design and expertise in equipment suppliers and contractors selection was a huge advantage to our project with limited resources. He put this skillset to work to meet the budget and expedite the schedule.” – Eddie Chan, Principal Engineer City of Arcadia
- Served as Project Manager
- Developed a groundwater remediation system to safely and proactively remove contaminants. Following a review of available technologies based on technical feasibility and cost, we selected a granular activated carbon (GAC) system and redesigned the layout of pipes and treatment equipment to optimize system operations. We also provided services related to site improvement design, CEQA application, funding application, bidding, contractor pre-qualification, and testing.
- Beyond successful project design and implementation, we helped the city partially offset costs by (1) helping it apply for Proposition 1 funding from the State of California; (2) facilitating pre-procurement of major equipment, which helped meet budgetary and schedule-related goals; and (3) obtaining multiple qualified and competitive bids for construction, leveraging knowledge of the local contracting industry.
